The Pentagon on Sunday announced the identities of three service members killed in Jordan. The soldiers were from Georgia.
The deaths are as follows. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia. Special Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, is from the South Pacific. Breonna Alexandria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia.
They were killed when a drone hit their housing unit, known as a Container Housing Unit (CHU).
The three soldiers were assigned to the 926th Engineer Brigade, 926th Engineer Battalion, 718th Engineer Company, Fort Moore, Georgia.
Sanders, affectionately known as “Munchkin,” was confirmed Monday as one of three people killed in the attack, which injured at least 34 people. according to to WTOC.
Sanders is 24 years old. according to Go to News4JAX. Flags were flown at half-staff around Waycross, the paper said. Waycross Mayor Michael Angelo James plans to hold a service of honor once the body is returned to his home, WTOC reports.
“Our family would like to thank you for honoring Mr. Kennedy,” Sanders’ father, Sean Sanders, posted on Facebook. Munchkin will be missed by many. ”
Meanwhile, Sanders’ mother, Oneida Oliver Sanders, posted, “I can’t believe I will never be able to hug or kiss my child again.” Life is so unfair. I just want a baby. ”
Moffett’s mother wrote on Facebook.
Today is one of the saddest days of my life. It is with a heavy heart that I must say that my firstborn angel is still with God today. The pain will never go away and my life will be forever changed. I’ll never be able to cook your favorite dishes, I’ll never be able to talk to you on the phone, and I’ll never see you walk through my front door again. Breonna Moffett was murdered this morning. Please know that a part of my heart and soul will always be missing. I love you, baby girl. Rest well. It will always be my first born.
The attack occurred at a remote logistics base in northeast Jordan on the border with Syria.
An Iranian-backed militia claimed responsibility for the drone attack.
Since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack in southern Israel, the militia has carried out more than 160 attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria, killing more than 1,200 people.
The Biden administration has carried out retaliatory attacks, primarily targeting infrastructure used by groups rather than extremists.
Sunday’s attack marked the group’s first successful killing of a U.S. military.
“We continue their commitment to fighting terrorism,” President Joe Biden said in a statement. And there’s no doubt about it. We will hold all those responsible accountable at once and in the manner we choose. ”
