Trump meets with Teamsters officials in DC

Former President Trump was scheduled to meet with union leaders on Wednesday to seek support for the Teamsters union in the 2024 election.

“Today I’m going to meet with the Teamsters in Washington, D.C.. So many of them are voting for me. It should be so fun!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The former president’s meeting is the latest sign that he wants to strip President Biden of support among organized labor. Biden has regularly described himself as the most pro-union president in history, and just last week he secured the support of the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien met with President Trump earlier this month at his Mar-a-Lago, Florida, mansion. In a subsequent Fox News interview, O’Brien said it was important for the group to hear from all candidates.

Trump is the leading candidate in the Republican primary and is expected to face Biden in a rematch in November.

The former president is trying to win the support of working-class Americans in key battleground states ahead of the general election. He visited Michigan last year during the autoworkers’ strike, but he didn’t go to the union commissary. In response, Biden met with workers on picket lines in Michigan.

President Trump lashed out at Sean Fein, calling him a “drug” after the UAW president endorsed Biden.
