Mayor Brandon Johnson broke the tie, and the measure passed on a 24-23 vote. Johnson received a lot of criticism on X (formerly Twitter) after he admitted to the shooting in the following post late Wednesday night:

“We must continue to value Chicago’s lives and work toward safety, respect for humanity, and healing the wounds of our communities.”

This is an increase of 32% compared to 2017. It’s a separate category, and despite last week’s rise, it has improved over the past four years.
