Comedian Larry David crashes NBC’S ‘Today’ set to beat up Elmo: ‘Somebody had to do it’

Comedian Larry David was asked to apologize to the Sesame Street character Thursday after shocking the casters by appearing on NBC’s “Today” show where he was scheduled to punch Elmo.

When the hosts started asking Al Roker for the weather forecast, David came out of the set and grabbed Elmo’s face. While NBC’s Today co-anchors were screaming, David also seemed to be making light use of the character.

After David left, Elmo said, “Let’s go back to the couch and talk about how we feel.” Anchor Savannah Guthrie turned to David and said, “Larry, you’re going too far this time.”

“Someone had to do it.” David replied that he heard Elmo’s father, Louis, say, “Ask for permission before you touch people, Larry.”

Roker started talking about the weather and said, “I never thought we’d get this kind of weather.”

Guthrie and host Hoda Kotb asked David to “sincerely” apologize to Elmo during a media appearance.

“Where did it come from? What organ are you talking about?” David joked before addressing Elmo. “Elmo, I just wanted to apologize.”

Elmo said he accepted David’s apology, and Louis added that it “meant a lot.”

Sesame Street’s Pride Month Twitter post is getting a lot of attention: “Happy Pride!” Elmo loves you!

Elmo went viral this week after President Biden responded to one of the character’s posts on social media.

A post asking the Sesame Street puppet’s more than 500,000 followers how they were feeling went viral on Monday.

“Elmo just checked in! How’s everyone doing?” the account asked, garnering nearly 200 million views and prompting thousands of answers. Many were from celebrities and prominent organizations like NASA.

The next day, in response to the social media buzz, Elmo’s account shared an image of the doll holding a stuffed animal and smiling at followers, writing, “Wow! Elmo is so glad you asked! Elmo is a person! I learned that it’s important to ask.” Friends, how are you? Elmo will be in touch again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing. ”

The president’s social media team also reviewed responses to Elmo’s posts.

“I know how difficult it is some days to clear the clouds and welcome a sunny day. Our friend Elmo is right. We are there for each other and we are all in trouble.” We must extend help to our neighbors and above all ask for help when we need it. You are never alone, even if it is difficult,” he said.
