The Wheel of Fortune player who polarized the internet claims the infamous quote has “haunted her” since the episode, leading fans to wonder what her answer was in the viral moment. Afterwards, the air was purified.
Contestant Megan Carbert took part in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday and revealed the real statement that made her lose $40,000 during the bonus round.
After guessing a few correct letters, a married California high school teacher took 10 seconds to come up with a two-word answer for the category “creatures.” For this answer, I had to solve the puzzle “P_N_” “_RC_ _”. D’
When Calvert answered, it sounded like he had correctly said “Pink Orchid,” but he also faintly heard “Something Orchid.”
The “GMA” cast, which also featured Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan, half-heartedly assured many fans that Carvale had guessed the puzzle correctly, but at the same time she was completely unsure of her answer. I also realized that I had not committed to it.
The decisive moment spilled out when they turned their attention to Calvale.
“For the history books. [and] For this desk – what did you say? ” Strahan asked Carbert with a smile.
“You know, I should have said pink, because I was $40,000 richer — but I said ‘something,'” Carbert admitted. “The funny thing is, going into the show, I was so excited to be there and then I lost in the bonus round and was so depressed.
“Just looking back and thinking, ‘Okay, I just gotta get over it, let’s take a look.’ [but] Then I woke up yesterday and it was full of headlines and everyone was talking about the bonus round and I’m remembering this loss. ”
Calvert said she received only positive feedback despite the debacle, adding that no one “made fun of her.”
Stephanopoulos thanked Calvert for his honesty, but joked that the family might have wanted $40,000 instead.
“Of course I do,” Calvale replied with a smile.
Calvale added that her 8-year-old son wouldn’t give her a break about it on the car ride home from the show, saying, “I can’t believe you didn’t turn pink, I can’t believe it.” He added that he remembered when he said that. It wasn’t pink. ”
“Those words have already haunted me, and now all of America believes I said those words, but I didn’t.”
After the show’s first misstep, fans went wild and demanded that Carbert be given the $40,000 prize that many in Wheel of Fortune thought he should have won.
