Teenager tries to steal gun from gun seller at gas station meet up and ends up dead, police say

The incident occurred at a Shell gas station in Crosby around 3pm on Thursday.

Police received a call about the shooting and when they responded, found A 17-year-old black male with multiple gunshot wounds and a man in possession of a firearm.

The boy was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man remained at the scene and told police he had agreed to meet the boy to sell him a gun, but when they met, the boy tried to steal the gun instead. During the ensuing struggle, the man claims he shot the teen.

Investigators said they worked with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to review surveillance video from the gas station, and the case could be referred to a grand jury.

“It was a quick response and job by Lt. Calhoun who was nearby and took the suspect shooter into custody,” Gonzalez said.

The identity of the teenager who died will not be released until next of kin is notified. Police believe he was dropped off at the gas station by someone and are asking for the public’s help in identifying that person.

Houston Police Department provided the public with some tips on how to safely complete online sales.

  • Complete the sale in a public place, such as near a police station
  • Have someone accompany you during the sale
  • Complete the sale only during the day
  • Do not meet people at your residence or their residence.
  • To prevent strangers from finding your personal information, don’t reveal your real email address.

They also said that if something doesn’t seem right with sales, you should trust your instincts.
