Former President Donald Trump is on track to defeat former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in the Republican primary, the latest research from The Rasmussen Report finds.

Among people who identify as conservatives, Trump leads by more than 60 points, with 75% to Haley’s 14%. While Ms. Haley has the lead among liberal voters, Ms. Trump and Ms. Haley are basically evenly matched among moderate voters.
The Rasmussen report also notes that states with open primaries could benefit Haley, something Haley’s campaign has publicly stated.
In states with open primaries (voters can choose which primary to vote in regardless of party registration), crossover voting could help Ms. Haley. Self-identified Republicans support Trump over Haley by a margin of 77% to 16%, but among Democrats who say they will vote in the Republican primary, Trump leads by just 32%. , 24% said they would vote for Haley, while 21% said they would vote for her. There are other candidates, but 23% are not sure. Among voters not affiliated with either major party who said they would vote in the Republican primary, Trump had a 16-point lead, with 58% to Haley’s 42%.
The poll was conducted Jan. 28-30 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, according to a memo released by her campaign hours before the New Hampshire primary results. As if she had foreseen the loss, she predicted the path ahead. This progress included strong performance in open primary states that relied on non-conservative voters.

The memo lays out a clear path for Haley to victory, including a strong showing in South Carolina, where she is not a registered party. The campaign will then move to Michigan, where the primary election is being held, the memo said.
The memo added that 11 of the 16 Super Tuesday states are holding open or “semi-open” primaries. In other words, the campaign believes there is “significant fertile ground” to attract non-conservative voters on Super Tuesday.
