A CNN poll this week found that 66% of independents disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance, highlighting his lack of momentum heading into the 2024 presidential race.
Independents are often the deciding factor in presidential elections. CNN found negative polling against Biden among critical demographics.

The poll found former President Donald Trump leading Biden nationally by a margin of error of 3.8 points, exceeding 4 points.

Support for Biden among traditionally Democratic-leaning blocs, such as young voters and people of color, has not increased since the fall. Voters under 35 remain almost evenly split, with 49% supporting Biden and 46% supporting Trump, while voters of color are backing Biden, with 57% favoring Biden. 35% is Trump.
Republicans are confident in Trump’s chances of winning a second term as president: 88% of Republican voters say Biden has a realistic chance of winning the presidency if he is the nominee. However, only 29% think Biden has a realistic chance of winning. Seven in 10 Republican voters (72%) say the Republican Party has a better chance of winning the White House with Trump in the lead than anyone else, and 57% say they think Trump has a better chance of winning the White House again. They answered that they would become more enthusiastic. And most Republican voters view President Trump as generally mainstream (62%) rather than too extreme (37%).
