A suspect has been charged after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a semi-truck driver died during a pursuit on Interstate 95 on Friday.
Michael Anthony Addison, 30, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, in the death of a semi-truck driver who died while FHP Officer Zachary Fink and Addison were fleeing from law enforcement. He has been arrested on suspicion of involvement, authorities announced Saturday.
Authorities said Fink chased Addison, who was driving a Kia, after officers tried unsuccessfully to stop him for speeding.
The suspect made a U-turn and began driving in the opposite direction, causing Fink to make a U-turn and attempt to chase the Kia. Fink was hit by a semi-truck during the chase. Both he and the truck driver died in the accident.

Addison reportedly left the scene, then crashed and abandoned the Kia.

Addison was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail and was being held without bail, according to an FHP press release. He faces charges including vehicular homicide, felony murder, aggravated flight to avoid serious bodily injury or death, and driving without a license causing death or serious bodily injury. The investigation is still ongoing.
“We will hold this defendant fully accountable for the lives he has taken and the immeasurable pain he has caused,” FHP Executive Director Dave Kerner said in a statement. “The Florida Highway Patrol, as well as the loved ones and friends of Officer Fink and the driver of the semi-truck, acknowledge that this is not the end of the loss they have suffered.”

Fink is survived by his parents and fiance.
