World Cup Fans Embrace American Culture During Tournament
Aisha Husny and Joe Concha discuss the vibrant experiences of international fans at the FIFA World Cup in the United States. Many social media posts from fans celebrating American favorites, like Waffle House and Big Gulps, are gaining popularity online. A touching video even featured Scottish fans joyfully supporting their team in a New England setting, complete with bagpipes.
Croatia has had notable success in recent World Cups, but their upcoming final group stage match is critical for qualifying into the next tournament.
To secure their position, they need to defeat Ghana in Philadelphia on Saturday. While it won’t be easy, they certainly have plenty of support.
Just a day before the match, fans dressed in Croatia’s iconic red and white checks swarmed sections of Philadelphia, even taking time for a couple’s wedding photo amidst the excitement.
It probably differs back in Croatia, but you can’t typically mix bridal photography without a few bumps along the way.
Jimmy King from the Philadelphia Sports Network observed a large gathering outside City Hall where fans were enjoying the World Cup spirit. However, amid the celebration, a scuffle broke out involving the wedding party and their photographer.
One can imagine how tense that must have been. Thankfully, the couple can look back on this moment, which will undoubtedly create an unforgettable story—much more memorable than typical wedding photography chatter.
After all, wedding photos are usually just a prelude to the cocktail party.
It’s somewhat amusing thinking about how the couple, perhaps, never envisioned Croatia fans as part of their special day. Who knows, maybe they secretly wished for that excitement?
Croatians seem to be doing a great job traveling—who would have guessed that a country with a population under 4 million could fill stadiums and take over cities, even disrupting wedding photos, across the ocean?
