Biden confuses French president Macron with ex-leader Mitterrand

President Biden on Sunday appeared to confuse French President Emmanuel Macron with the European country’s former leader, who has been dead for nearly 30 years.

During a campaign speech in Las Vegas, the 81-year-old president inaccurately recalled speaking with former French President Francois Mitterrand, who died in 1996, during a 2021 meeting with world leaders.

“It was in the south of England. And I sat down and said, ‘America is back,’ and Mitterrand, who was from Germany, who was from France, looked at me and said, ‘You know what? So, why and how long are you coming back?’” Biden said. He was referring to conversations at the G7 summit, where NATO leaders discussed the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol.

“And I looked at him, and the German Chancellor said, ‘Mr President, if you pick up the London Times tomorrow and the London Times says, ‘A thousand people broke through Parliament.’ What do you think?” House of Commons, two Bobbys are killed to break down the door and prevent the election of Prime Minister. what would you say? ‘

Biden’s speech largely took direct aim at Trump, accusing the former president of plunging the country into “chaos” before leaving office.

Trump, 77, appears to be aiming to win the Republican nomination to take on Biden in this year’s presidential election, a rematch of the 2020 election.
