Haley applies for Secret Service protection due to increasing threats

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Monday confirmed reports that she has requested Secret Service protection amid mounting threats.

“We had multiple issues,” Haley said. wall street journal (WSJ) Monday after an election event in South Carolina. “I’m not going to let that stop me from doing what I need to do.”

Haley, a former South Carolina governor, was the target of two “knock-downs” at her home in the Palmetto State, a US newspaper reported. ABC News.

The Journal noted on Monday that the number of protesters attending her events in recent days has increased, opposing her support for additional aid to Ukraine and Israel. The news organization reported that a woman was tackled by the candidate’s security personnel as she tried to rush to the stage at a Haley campaign event last week.

“If you do something like this, you will receive threats,” Haley told reporters last week, according to the Journal. “That’s just the reality.”

She added that her campaign has not been hampered, despite the fact that she has to “put some more bodies around us.”

“At the end of the day, we’re going to be out there doing everything we can, answering every question, being there ourselves and doing everything that needs to be done,” Haley told the Journal.

The Hill reached out to Haley’s campaign, which confirmed the request to Reuters.

Haley’s request for protection comes amid an increase in political violence and threats against members of Congress. The Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with Congress, will ultimately decide whether to approve Secret Service protection.

The news was announced ahead of this week’s Nevada caucuses and primary. As a result of the feud between the state and Republicans, Haley’s name will appear on the state’s primary ballot on Tuesday, but she won’t receive any delegates there.

Former President Trump, the current Republican front-runner and Haley’s biggest rival, will participate in Thursday’s caucuses.
