Democrats block resolution to declare migrant crisis ‘an invasion’

Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., blocked Republican Sen. Roger Marshall’s proposal in the Senate on Tuesday for unanimous consent to label the southern border migrant crisis an “invasion.”

Marshall is One of more than 20 Republican senators They oppose the bipartisan border bill announced Sunday, arguing it would give President Biden more sole authority and would not reduce the number of illegal border crossings to zero. The Senate is scheduled to adjourn Wednesday to pass the bill, which includes billions of dollars in aid to Israel and Ukraine, and would require a 60-vote majority to pass.

“This bill should actually be called the Ukraine Funding Act,” Marshall told reporters at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. “And yes, Joe Biden has been going through this travesty for the past few months, but as my colleague said, Joe Biden has been able to secure the border just like he was able to secure the border yesterday.” He was never serious about securing it. That was never his goal.”
