Investigators spoke with the boy’s mother and learned that Shira had helped her and the boy’s father find employment at their workplace.

The day before the child was taken to the hospital, Shira decided to take time off from work and volunteer to watch the child while the parents went to work. That morning, he picked up his father and mother, was given a diaper bag with diapers, clothes, wipes and formula, drove the couple to work, and then returned home to care for the boy.

According to court documents, Shira picked up the couple from work around 4:30 p.m. that day, and the mother noticed the child’s “breathing was abnormal” and that she was “in a daze as her labor progressed.” added.

She also discovered a bruise on the inside of the child’s right arm that wasn’t there before she left her son with Sheila.
