U.S. Customs and Border Protection has tracked more than 1 million migrant encounters since the start of fiscal year 2024 on Oct. 1, a CBP official told FOX News Digital on Wednesday. , this is the fastest time ever to reach this record.
This number is about 100,000 more than during the same period last year, when there were 908,000 encounters in the United States. According to CBP sources, this is the earliest the U.S. has ever reached 1 million encounters.
The United States is also tracking an increase in Chinese immigrants crossing the border. Last year, Chinese illegal immigrants made up the fastest growing group of border crossers and are on track to break that record in 2024.
CBP encountered more than 37,000 Chinese immigrants last year, and has already encountered nearly 20,000 since October. CBP officials say they have encountered about 150 Chinese immigrants per day this year.
