Former NY Gov. Pataki backs GOP hopeful Eisen in Senate race against Gillibrand

Former New York Governor George Pataki, a Republican, is backing Josh Eisen’s efforts to upset Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who is seeking a second term later this year.

“New York deserves a senator who not only understands the state’s challenges, but also has the courage and practical wisdom to deal with the complexities of Washington. Josh Eisen is that leader,” said Pataki, 78. said, expressing support for the Republican candidate.

“His extensive humanitarian work, combined with his innovative thinking and legislative acumen, makes him uniquely qualified to bring about the change we so desperately need. ”

Eisen, a billionaire Westchester businessman and major Republican donor, entered the race in December hoping to capitalize on the red wave that swept Long Island in the 2022 midterm elections.

Whoever wins the Republican nomination will face an uphill battle to unseat the 57-year-old Gillibrand in the deep-blue Empire State.

Mr. Eisen’s task could become even more difficult if another candidate enters the race from the right and splits the Republican vote.

A special House election next week between Democrat Tom Suozzi and Republican Maji Pilip could be an early indicator of whether Republicans can capitalize on the momentum in New York.

“With Josh Eisen in the Senate, we are confident that New York State will have a representative who will not only fight for them, but will bring a fresh, common-sense approach to governing.” , added Pataki, who remains a Republican. He maintains a statewide office in New York.

Eisen, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2020, said he was “humbled and honored” by the support.

“I’ve spent the last few months traveling around our great state speaking to everyday New Yorkers about the things that matter most to them: the economy, jobs, cost of living, crime and the lack of immigration enforcement,” he added. Ta. “Our leaders are completely disconnected from the realities that people face on a daily basis.”
