Denver (KDVR) — Have you ever looked at an item on a grocery store shelf and been convinced it used to be called a different brand name? Especially if you used to live somewhere else, you might be wrong. Maybe not.
Some brands go by completely different names depending on which half of the United States they are sold in.
The companies note that many of the differences between these brand names lie east and west of the Rocky Mountains.
mayonnaise
If you grew up or lived east of the Rocky Mountains, you probably recognize Hellmann’s as one of the mayonnaise brands you’ve bought or seen on the shelves. .
However, if you search for the brand on store shelves in some western states, you may not find it. Instead, you might find a very similar-looking jar labeled “Best Foods.”

That’s because in 1927, the Hellmann’s brand was acquired by a California company that later became Best Foods. However, the company continued to sell under both brand names, Best Foods in the West and Hellmann’s in the East.
ice cream
Depending on your familiarity, you might find yourself doing a double take when walking down the frozen dessert aisle at the store.
Dreyer’s and Edy’s ice creams look almost identical, except for the name on the box. Both are from the same company.

West of the Rocky Mountains and in Texas, you can find it under the name dryer. But on its east side is Edy. The company said it was done to honor the company’s founders, William Dreyer and Joseph Eddy.
Fast food
These regional differences between the West Coast and the East Coast are not limited to grocery store staples.
Although Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are both owned by the same parent company, CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc., the company considers the two to be separate brands.

If you’re coming from the eastern half of the United States, you’ll only find Hardee’s restaurants until you reach a certain point. The only option at that point is Carl’s Jr.
Wyoming and Oklahoma are two states that have both Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurants.
girl scout cookies
These cookies are known nationally as Girl Scout Cookies, but you may notice different brands and flavors depending on where you grew up and what you’re used to.
Two different bakeries provide cookies to Girl Scouts of America chapters: ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers.
Perhaps the most notable difference between the two is the names of some of the cookies. Samoas and caramel delights are the same type of cookies as dosidos and peanut butter sandwiches are, Samoas and caramel delights are the same type of cookies as each other, and tagalongs and peanuts are the same type of cookies. The same goes for butter patties.

For example, cookies in Colorado are made by Little Brownie Bakers, while cookies elsewhere, including throughout Kansas and Nebraska, are made by ABC Bakers.
However, unlike the previous three brands, the differences between their respective sales locations are less stark, and you can find cookies from both bakeries on both sides of the Rocky Mountains.
