Conservative firebrand announces run for key battleground Senate race being targeted by Dems

A conservative firebrand has formally filed to run in the hotly contested Montana Senate race to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Tester.

Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) made the long-awaited announcement Friday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“We’ve achieved great things in the House, only to see them die at the hands of Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer in the Senate,” he said in a post.

Former Navy SEAL says Democrats are interfering in Senate race “to exclude Montana voters from ‘two-faced’ opposition”

Rosendale’s candidacy has sparked the state’s Republican primary, where he will challenge former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy for the nomination.

When asked about a potential primary challenger earlier this week, Sheehy told Fox News Digital that his “focus is on Jon Tester.”

“Conservatives are focused on taking control of the Senate so we can bring common sense policy back to Washington, D.C.,” Sheehy said. “We have to reform both parties. Both chambers of Congress are dysfunctional right now. We need a new generation of leadership in both chambers, and it’s time to start moving things forward.”

Sheehy, a first-time candidate, has already received support from Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) and Gov. Greg Gianforte.
