A Democratic Pennsylvania lawmaker was caught on video yelling abuse and threatening bar employees.
Rep. Kevin Boyle of Philadelphia uses expletives in a video where he threatens to close Gaul & Co. Malt House, a bar in Rockledge, as employees yell at him to leave. In the video, he appeared to be intoxicated.
WCAU TV says Police officials confirmed that the man was Boyle.
Boyle called people at the bar “stupid” and “stupid” and at one point accused them of being “actors.”
The 44-year-old then asked if they were military personnel and threatened to block their promotion.
“You don’t think I’ll prevent your promotion to the U.S. military?” he asked.
“Listen, I had a little too much to drink. Please go home now,” the woman in the video said.
Later in the video, he starts yelling as he closes the bar.
“This bar is over! Do you know who I am?” he shouted.
“This bar is closing tomorrow! “Do you know who I am?” he repeated.
“I know!” said the woman.
Ann Unedited version The video has gone viral on social media and lasts about three minutes. It’s unclear what led to the disagreement, and Boyle has yet to comment on the video.
A spokesperson for the Democratic leadership of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives issued a statement regarding the incident, saying Boyle is seeking help.
“We are aware of the video circulating on social media. It is deeply troubling. Congressman Boyle has been open about personal challenges,” the statement reads.
“We are heartened that our colleagues and dear friends are seeking help,” he continued, adding, “Our commitment to providing mental health services extends beyond the steps of the Capitol. One of the main reasons for advocating for access to mental health is the reality that difficulties can and do happen to everyone, and that seeking treatment should be encouraged, not stigmatized. That means there is.”
The video could have a significant impact on which party controls the House, where Democrats currently control just one seat. according to In the Philadelphia Inquirer.
