Twins who were separated for 81 years reunited in a heartwarming moment and said it felt like they were meeting for the first time.
Maurilia Chavez and Andrea Lopez, 90, got back together in December after DNA tests revealed they were connected.
“Eighty-one years is so long that it felt like I was meeting her for the first time in my life…I remember just a little, a little, a little.” Lopez told News 9.
The twins were only 5 years old when their parents died. The twins and the remaining 10 members of the family were separated among relatives.
Lopez, who lives in Las Vegas, booked a flight to Denver to meet the long-lost twins after genetic testing showed they were a match around Thanksgiving, local newspapers reported.
“My sister, I really wanted to meet you, my beautiful sister, I wanted to be with you,” Lopez said upon their reunion.
“I never thought I’d meet her, never,” Chavez said.
The last time I saw him was when he was 9 years old, and he was reunited with his siblings for just one day.
Before meeting in December, the brothers spoke for a long time on the phone.
They recalled how their voices had changed so much since childhood that they could barely recognize each other on the phone.
The two shared a twin bed, and Lopez admitted that she fell out of bed while visiting President Chavez.
But she didn’t care because the sisters only wanted to make up for lost time.
According to News 9, they spent time reminiscing about their childhood memories until it was time for Lopez to return to Nevada.
“I’m the happiest person in the world because I never thought I’d see her again. And the other reason I cried like a baby was because I was lonely. I have a beautiful family But what I really needed was my sister,” Chavez said. .
The twins dream of living together someday and whisper to each other what kind of state they will live in.
Since the meeting, News 9 has learned that three of the brothers are still alive and in their 80s and 90s.
Lopez met one of her brothers who drove from Los Angeles to visit her, and has since gone to Texas to meet another brother.
