Jill Biden defends president on age attacks

First Lady Jill Biden slammed Special Counsel Robert Hur over a scathing report that raised alarming questions about her husband’s advanced age and mental acuity.

While Mr. “An old man,” he said.

His 388-page report said that during a lengthy interrogation with prosecutors, the president could not remember the exact date of his late son Beau Biden’s death, or even when his vice presidency ended. There is.

“I hope you can imagine how I felt, not only as Joe’s wife, but as Beau’s mother, reading that attack,” Jill Biden lamented in an email to supporters over the weekend.

“I don’t know what this special prosecutor was trying to accomplish. I can’t imagine doing that.”

Ha, a former Maryland district attorney appointed by President Trump, was appointed special counsel in January 2023 to oversee the Justice Department’s investigation into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

His report claimed that Biden “does not remember when his son Beau died, even within a few years.” Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015, and the president has frequently spoken of his struggles during that time.

“If you have ever experienced such a loss, you know that it is not measured in years, but in grief. May 30th will forever be etched in our hearts. It shattered me, it shattered our family,” Jill Biden retorted.

“How on earth could he say something like that? Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought it was none of their damn business,” President Biden said in a lively interview last Thursday. He was furious at the packed press conference.

At 81 years old, Biden is already the oldest US president in history.

If Biden were to win and serve a hypothetical second term, he would be 86 years old at the end of his term.

Heo’s damning reports have added fuel to the fire of speculation over his age, even as he appears ready to face off again with Donald Trump, who is only three-and-a-half years his junior.

The special counsel said Biden “doesn’t remember when he was vice president and doesn’t know when his term ended (“If it was 2013, when did I stop being vice president?”) on the first day of the interview. He also claimed that he had forgotten about the presidential election. The second day of the interview as his term began (“2009, Am I Still Vice President?”)”

White House officials have vigorously pushed back and questioned some of Mr. Hur’s claims, while complaining that they were not relevant to his investigation in the first place.

Biden passionately refuted the age section of the Ha report during a heated press conference, but he made another gaffe when he mistakenly referred to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi as the “President of Mexico.”

Republicans seized on this development, including: Rep. Claudia Tenney The Cabinet proposed invoking the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and removing him from office on the grounds that he was incompetent to carry out his duties.

The 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution allows the president to be removed from office if the president becomes incapacitated in any way.

“Joe is 81 years old, that’s true, but he’s 81 years old and he does more in an hour than most people do in a day,” the first lady added. “His age with experience and expertise is an incredible asset and he is proving that every day.”

Biden allies then quickly echoed former President Donald Trump’s rally in South Carolina on Saturday, where he said he would encourage Russia to attack NATO allies that don’t pay their dues. She wondered why her husband, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, was sent there. He is not participating in the election campaign.

On Saturday, prominent Democratic political strategist James Carville expressed concern about Biden’s absence from Sunday’s Super Bowl interview for the second year in a row.

“It’s close to the biggest audience on television,” Carville said on CNN’s “Smerconish” on Saturday. “You’ll get a chance to do a 20- to 25-minute interview that day.”

“So you don’t do it? That’s kind of a sign that the staff or yourself don’t have a lot of confidence in you,” Carville continued. “There is no other way but to read this.”

The Super Bowl Sunday commander-in-chief interview was started by former President Barack Obama in 2009. Last year, the Super Bowl drew 115 million views.

“And he’s not going to debate,” Carville later added. “He’s getting older. I’m about the same age as him, so I know what that is, but things never get better.”

White House officials countered that Americans were more intent on watching the San Francisco 49ers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs than thinking about politics.

According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll, 86% of Americans think Biden is too old to serve a second term.
