Intense body camera video from Ohio shows the moment a police officer is rammed by a car, flipped onto its hood and opened fire as the vehicle sped away.
On Wednesday afternoon, Columbus police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2015 Toyota Corolla that had been reported stolen in Lancaster, Ohio.
A police cruiser sped through the neighborhood trying to stop the stolen car. The car stopped at a gas station and turned around. Police gave verbal commands to the driver to stop and show his hands, but the driver did not comply. Police installed spike strips at the exit of the gas station.
Police body camera video shows officers approaching the stolen vehicle with guns drawn. A Columbus police sergeant ordered the driver to stop, but the woman put the car in reverse.
Dramatic police body camera footage reveals the sudden moment a woman hits the gas and slams into an officer. He tipped over onto the hood of the car and fired 12 shots into the windshield and hood.
The sergeant remained in the speeding car for several seconds before rolling onto the road. The runaway vehicle collided with two passenger cars that were stopped at a red light.
The driver, Holly Graham, suffered gunshot wounds to both her upper thigh and lower torso.
by Columbus dispatch“As officers began assessing Ms. Graham’s injuries and applying tourniquets to her legs, Ms. Graham repeatedly asked for water, which she said was located in the center console of her vehicle. ”
Graham reportedly said, “If you want to help me, water is the best thing.”
“I didn’t mean to hit my mother (expletive),” Graham said, according to the newspaper.
The 32-year-old is quoted as saying, “Does anyone have a (expletive) cigarette? Really, does anyone have a cigarette?”
Graham was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
WSYX “Late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, Graham was taken into custody on a 2020 warrant,” it confirmed.
Graham was charged with felony assault on a police officer.
The sergeant was taken to the hospital but released on Friday. His identity has not been released, but he worked for the Columbus Police Department for 10 years.
