Biden campaign courts young voters by joiningTikTok: ‘lol hey guys’

President Biden’s campaign, eager to woo the 81-year-old candidate with younger voters, launched a TikTok account that posted a video titled “lol hey guys.”

In a 30-second debut video shown during Sunday’s Super Bowl, aides peppered a grinning Biden with questions about the big game, including “Are you playing the game or commercials?” And he said, “Jason Kelsey or Travis Kelsey?”

Mr. Biden, who was absent from formal interviews on game day, carefully avoided divisive sports-related questions and instead took jabs at bizarre Internet conspiracy theories about rigging Super Bowl III. I joked.

TikTok has come under intense bipartisan scrutiny over its relationship with China. The company is owned by a subsidiary of Chinese tech company ByteDance.

Many critics have raised alarm over TikTok’s growing popularity in the United States, in light of China’s national security law that requires companies to fork data related to China’s national security.

However, late last month, TikTok CEO Xu Che insisted in the Senate that “the Chinese government has not asked us to provide any data, and we have never provided it.”

TikTok claims it is blocking U.S. data to allay national security concerns.

The Biden administration is also actively monitoring TikTok, with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States conducting an investigation related to privacy concerns.

“We have advanced security measures in place around our devices and have built in advanced security protocols to ensure their safety,” Biden campaign advisers said in a statement.
