Katy Perry claims she is quitting her time on “American Idol.”
After seven years as a judge, the pop singer has announced that she is stepping down from the popular competition show.
“This is probably my last show, my last season of Idol,” Perry announced last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

“I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much…It connected me to the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.” she added, winking at the host.
Asked how fellow “American Idol” judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie reacted to the news, Perry replied, “Well, they’ll find out tonight!”
“They know I have something planned this year,” she teased. “So this is going to be a very, very exciting year for all the pop star girls!”

“Let’s play two truths and a lie. 1. I won the Monopoly Deal against @usher. 2. I’ll be headlining Rock in Rio this September. 3. This is what it’s like for me @ Last season on americanidol,” she wrote in an Instagram caption.
The “Roar” singer’s exit comes after she came under fire for her controversial season of “American Idol.”
Perry was previously accused of “mother-shaming” and “condescending” during Season 21 of the hit show.

Fellow judge Bryan defended Perry when asked if a fan’s criticism of her had been too harsh.
“Katy Perry has dealt with things like that throughout her career,” Bryan explained in an interview at Country Music Association (CMA) Fest in June. “We all understand that. … I mean, we’re judging kids that people in the household fall in love with. … We’re going to hit 1,000 people as judges. there is no.”

“I think we’re prepared. As judges, you know, we fall on the sword many times. And we’re prepared in a place where people can be very vocal on social media and things like that.” ” he explained, addressing the influx of negative comments Perry received about her comments.
“I think when I have Lionel with me, [Richie] And Katie is sitting at her desk, thinking in her heart that we’re all doing the best we can. ”
