Two hostages held by Hamas were rescued in a Monday night raid in Rafah, near the Egyptian border, Israeli security forces said.
The hostages, identified as Fernando Mallman, 61, and Louis Ha, 70, both have dual Israeli and Argentine citizenship.
“Fernando and Louis, welcome home. I salute the daring actions of our brave soldiers who brought about the liberation. Only by continuing military pressure until complete victory can the liberation of all the hostages be brought about. ” Israeli President and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“This is a complex rescue operation under fire in the center of Rafah, based on highly sensitive and high-quality information from the Intelligence Department and the General Security Directorate,” Hagari explained. “This is an operation that we have been preparing for some time, the necessary preparations have been completed and we were waiting for the conditions to begin.”
Merman and Herr were later reunited with their families.
“They are now surrounded by their families and families they haven’t seen in the 128 days since the Oct. 7 massacre. Luckily for our family, they were saved tonight, but their jobs are… “I have to say it’s not over.” “We’re happy today, but we didn’t win. Israel wants further engagement with Hamas in the city of Ramah, but the White House issued a statement warning.
“Military operations in Rafah should not proceed without a credible and workable plan to ensure the safety and support of the more than one million people sheltered there.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu said in an interview with ABC News that Israel has a plan against Hamas.
“This is part of the war effort to keep civilians out of danger. This is part of the effort to keep Hamas out of danger. But we have been successful and we will continue to be successful. No matter the circumstances. But those who say they shouldn’t join Rafah are essentially telling us to lose the war. Keep Hamas there. Hamas has committed the October 7th massacre over and over again. I promised to repeat it.”
