Lara Trump says she’d spend ‘every single penny’ of RNC funds to elect father-in-law

Lara Trump doubled down on her support for her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump, on Tuesday, vowing to spend “every penny” of Republican National Committee funds to re-elect him to the White House.

Asked by Newsmax host Rob Schmidt what needs to change to make the RNC more competitive, Lara said Tuesday, “The RNC is the leanest, most lethal organization in American history.” It needs to be a political fighting machine.”

“That’s my goal for the next nine and a half months. If I’m elected to this position, I can guarantee you that no more $70,000 or any other exorbitant amount will be spent on flowers,” she said. continued. “Every penny will be spent on the RNC’s number one and only job: electing Donald J. Trump as President of the United States and saving our country.”

The pledge was announced just days after President Trump endorsed Lara as co-chair of the RNC. The former president praised her as “an extremely talented communicator who is dedicated to everything MAGA stands for,” while also endorsing North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to serve as RNC chair.

Lara Trump is married to Trump’s son Eric and has been involved with the RNC and party donors since the former president’s time in the Oval Office. If she and Mr. Whatley are elected by RNC members, it would ensure a complete takeover of the committee by the former president.

President Trump said Sunday that he has asked his senior campaign adviser, Chis Rachivita, to essentially serve as the RNC’s chief operating officer and oversee the committee’s day-to-day operations ahead of the general election.

The possibility of a change in RNC leadership comes amid speculation that current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is likely to resign after the Feb. 24 South Carolina primary.

Tensions between Trump and McDaniel have grown in recent months after the former president refused to explicitly endorse McDaniel or his challenger in the 2023 leadership race and called on the party to rally to his side. Tensions are rising.
