Trump to appear in New York City court for hearing in criminal case from DA Alvin Bragg’s investigation

Former President Trump will appear in a New York City courtroom Thursday morning for a hearing related to a case stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation.

Mr. Bragg indicted Mr. Trump in April on 34 counts of first-degree falsification of business records. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial is scheduled to begin March 25 in New York City.

But Bragg said he remains flexible on that date pending Special Counsel Jack Smith’s decision on a Jan. 6 trial date in the case.

If the trial begins March 25, court proceedings would begin immediately after the Louisiana primary and April 2, when voters in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin cast their ballots to choose Republican candidates. It will be done earlier.

Bragg alleged that Trump “repeatedly fraudulently falsified New York business records to cover up his criminal conduct in concealing information harmful to voters during the 2016 presidential election.”

President Trump asserts his innocence and says, “I never thought something like this could happen in America.”

The charges are related to allegations of hush money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign.

In 2019, federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York declined to indict Trump in connection with payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougall. The Federal Election Commission also abandoned its investigation into the issue in 2021.

Mr. Bragg’s indictment was the first brought against Mr. Trump last year. He was later indicted in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s classified records investigation, the 2020 election interference and January 6 Smith investigation, and Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation.
