14 year old boy shot dead Texas State Police say the man was trying to break into a home.
A man in his early 20s to late 30s was shot outside a Cloverleaf home around 7 a.m. Thursday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the man was wearing gloves and carrying a backpack, indicating he intended to commit a robbery.
Police said the boy was alone in the house after his father left for work and became frightened when the man tried to turn the doorknob and open the front door.
“This is a very tragic situation here. We’re talking about a 14-year-old boy having to use deadly force to protect himself and his property,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. That’s what I mean.”
Gonzalez said the boy fired five or six shots.
The Homeless Assistance Team told KHOU-TV that they had previously dealt with the man and confirmed that he was homeless.
The teen’s neighbor, Araceli Herrera, said the homeless man was seen on her home’s surveillance camera. She said the man had been acting suspiciously before the shooting.
Police said they received two calls from neighbors at about the same time about a man kicking in doors and demanding money.
Herrera, who witnessed the boy open the door and fire at the man, said he remains in shock over the incident.
“I still can’t stop shaking,” she told KHOU.
“If my daughter was in that situation, I honestly would be glad she was okay,” Herrera said. “And the other guy, I don’t know what his intentions were.”
