Masked Teens Attempt Robbery on Chicago Bus
On a Chicago bus Saturday night, a group of three masked teens attempted to rob a 54-year-old man, but the man refused to surrender his belongings, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 11:22 p.m. while the man was on a northbound Ashland bus near 57th Street. The teens confronted him, demanding his possessions.
Witnesses reported that the suspects threatened the man, saying they would shoot him. However, the victim quickly decided that he would not give in without a fight.
In a surprising turn of events, he pulled out a “sharp object” from his bag and defended himself against the attackers. Police noted that the suspects physically assaulted him before fleeing the scene.
Officers initially responded to a panic alarm from the bus, which indicated that there was a “person with a knife.” As the investigation unfolded, police determined that the three masked teens had targeted the passengers.
While checking the area, police received another 911 call from a location nearby, where a person reported that his 13-year-old brother had been stabbed in the hand. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified the injured boy and his companions as the robbery suspects. They also recovered the victim’s stolen necklace from the location.
Emergency personnel treated the victim for injuries to his hand and transported him to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was reported to be in good condition. The suspects, who sustained minor injuries during the altercation, were later treated as well. Three suspects were arrested, and charges were still pending as of Sunday morning.
Reactions to the incident were strong among those who viewed news reports. Some individuals expressed outrage over the assault, attributing it to the overall safety issues within the city. Others criticized the local leadership for not providing adequate protection for citizens using public transportation.
