A Florida man described by authorities as a “serial bank robber” is back at it again, committing the same crime just one day after being released from prison.
Timothy Jones, 60, was sent back to prison after robbing two banks in the Orlando, Florida, area within days of his release from prison, according to the Department of Justice.
Jones was released from the Putnam County Correctional Facility on June 1, 2022, after serving an eight-year sentence for robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Orlando, according to court documents.
The next day, lured by old habits, Jones returned to the bank and continued his robbery spree.

According to authorities, on June 2, 2022, Jones entered Trust Bank, which is on the same street as the bank he had previously robbed, and detained an employee.
A 60-year-old Florida man allegedly threatened bank employees, saying, “I have a gun. If I don’t give you $150,000, I’ll shoot everyone in the bank.”
He warned trust bank employees that there would be “bloodshed” if they did not comply with his demands.
After the employee offered $30,000, Jones took the employee’s car keys and fled, according to the Department of Justice.

Late on June 9, Jones was arrested by local police.
Authorities found $1,815 in cash on Jones’ person and $47,200 in the stolen vehicle.
After being taken into custody, Jones claimed to be mentally incompetent and unable to stand trial.
About a year later, in May 2023, Jones wrote a letter to relatives saying he was pretending to be incompetent in order to “manipulate,” “cheat” and “deceive” doctors and the court system. His sentence will be lenient.
