19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki died suddenly in UC Berkeley dorm

The 19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki died suddenly in his dormitory at the University of California, Berkeley, earlier this week.

A freshman student was found unresponsive in a dormitory at the University of California, Berkeley’s Clark Carr Campus on Tuesday afternoon. Around 4:23 p.m., the Berkeley Fire Department announced that it was “attempting life-saving measures” for the student.

Sadly, the Berkeley Fire Department announced the individual’s death shortly after responding to the emergency.

Authorities did not release the cause of death. UC Berkeley police said there was no sign of foul play.

UC Berkeley spokesman Adam Ratliff said counselors have set up a “healing space” for students to work with victims of sudden deaths.

A few days later, the student who suddenly died was identified as Marco Troper, the son of the former YouTube CEO.

Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, recalled her grandson as “a very kind, loving, smart, fun and beautiful human being.”

in Facebook In the post, the grandmother said her family was “incomprehensibly shocked” by the sudden death.

“Marco’s life was cut too short and we are all devastated and thinking of all the opportunities and life experiences he will miss and we will miss together.” Wojcicki wrote. “Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you know.”

Wojcicki believes her grandson ingested drugs and died suddenly.

The distraught grandmother said: SF gate“He took drugs, but we don’t know what was in it. One thing we do know is that it was drugs.”

“We want to prevent this from happening to other families,” she said.

“It’s very difficult to sustain a tragedy,” Wojcicki told the outlet. “It feels like you want to hide in the closet and never come out, but the important thing is to move forward and think about what you can do to help other people so that no other child loses their life.” I think it means you need to wake up like Marco. ”

Troper is the son of Susan Wojcicki, who served as CEO of YouTube from 2014 to 2023.

Marko was one of five children between Wojcicki and her husband, Dennis Troper.

Marco Troper was in his second semester as a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences.

University of California, Berkeley officials said the death is under investigation.
