A 23-year-old man was released from an Arizona prison and needed a ride home, so he immediately stole a semi-truck towing a new Corvette worth $1 million, police said.
Isaiah Walker, of Lawton, Oklahoma, stopped to talk to the truck driver at the Wilcox Loves Struck stop near Interstate 10, then “gave him reassurance” and threw him out of the cab. Ta. This was announced by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
Walker then allegedly took off in the semifinals with 10 Chevrolet C8 Corvettes estimated to be worth more than $1.25 million.
Officials said officers eventually spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to stop and “recklessly” sped away.
After being taken into custody, Walker told police that the Corvette was “not the reason” he stole the semi-truck and that he needed the truck to get home from jail.
Walker was booked into the Cochise County Jail on multiple felonies, including robbery, 11 counts of theft of transportation, and felony theft.
The semi-truck was recovered without damage and released to its original driver, Wilcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield said.
“Deputies and police officers showed great restraint and patience in peacefully resolving a serious crime while ensuring that no one else’s property was harmed,” he said in a statement.
