A K-9 in California discovered several pounds of methamphetamine in an unlikely place: a box of dog treats.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident on Facebook on February 15th. The traffic stop occurred Tuesday when a sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle traveling in Petaluma.
The car was being driven by Angelina Gutierrez, 41, who was charged with felony transportation of a controlled substance.
“During the traffic stop, the deputy learned that the driver had a misdemeanor arrest warrant out of Mendocino County and was told there was a methamphetamine pipe in the vehicle,” the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. explained.

Authorities say the deputy and his K-9 then “sniffed” the vehicle for suspected drugs.
”[The K-9 was] “A caller reported a dog treat box in the vehicle. Deputies then searched the vehicle and found a package of methamphetamine in the dog treat box,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputies also found additional packages of methamphetamine inside the cat’s litter box.”

The deputy and his K-9 found a total of 10 pounds of meth, which was distributed in 10 bags.
The police dog’s efforts were praised by residents in the comments section of the Facebook post.
“Good boy! Maybe it’s better that the K-9 officer doesn’t know what happened to his great job!” one local wrote.
“Of all places, they hid it in dog treat boxes. Great job guys!” another person commented.
