A Rikers Island inmate attacked a fellow member of the Gorilla Stone Bloods gang with a 7-inch homemade Plexiglas knife, leaving the victim in need of life-saving heart surgery, authorities said Tuesday.
Shane Delisle, a 25-year-old gangbanner who goes by the street names “Bankroll” or “Swerve,” is accused of assaulting Charles Satterwhite on Dec. 20 before prison officers pepper-sprayed him. He was charged in the Bronx with stabbing a man multiple times in the chest and back. said attorney Darcel Clark.
“The vicious attack was captured on video and allegedly shows the defendant stabbing the victim multiple times with a plexiglass fashioned into the shape of a knife, causing life-threatening injuries,” Clark said. said in a statement about the attack, which occurred at 8:30 a.m. Afternoon at the George R. Vierno Center.
“Corrections officers quickly stopped him before the victim was killed,” Clark added.
Clark said Satterwhite likely knew Delisle before the attack and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he required open-heart surgery.
Prison guards found two more sheets of plexiglass inside Delisle’s cell, the statement said.
Delisle is charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of third-degree assault and various other charges for the December crime, according to the DA’s office.
Clark added that at Delisle’s arraignment Tuesday, the judge ordered him adjourned until his next court date, May 14.
Delisle is also charged with promoting prison contraband and weapons crimes.
He had been in jail since March 2022 on a series of charges, including attempted murder, gang assault and assault with intent to kill, according to court records.
