Giants are treating Saquon Barkley like a ‘sidepiece’: Bart Scott

Bart Scott wants the Giants to stop bringing in Saquon Barkley.

When discussing the future of the Giants’ star running back, who is set to become a free agent next month, Scott pointed to the developing situation as Barkley being a third party in relation to the team that drafted him No. 2 in 2018. I compared it to

“[Giants GM] Joe Sean needs to say to Saquon, “Listen, we’re not that interested in you.” You’re treating Saquon like a supporting character here. They’re giving him enough to keep him happy,” Scott said on Wednesday’s “Get Up.”

Fellow panelist Kimberly A. Martin said Scott’s comment was “a great analogy,” and Mike Greenberg said, “In commercials, you’re going to explain it to me,” and said, “In commercials, you explain it to me,” and said, It made me laugh.

According to Paul Schwartz of the Post, unlike last year when the Giants placed the franchise tag on Barkley after signing QB Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract, the team will not re-tag Barkley. It is unlikely that it will be attached.

Barkley, in his fifth year with the Giants and playing on a one-year deal worth up to $11 million after the NFL-imposed long-term contract deadline passed in July, threw for 962 yards and six touchdowns through 14 games. Four receiving scores are also tallied.

He missed three games due to an ankle sprain.

Scott, a former NFL linebacker who played for the Ravens and Jets, suggested the Texans are the best fit for the 27-year-old Barkley.

“I understand that the value of the position is different, but in certain places that can afford to pay Saquon because of the luxury of being a rookie quarterback, I think it’s definitely a move from Saquon to Houston.” Scott said Wednesday..

The Texans emerged as one of the league’s surprises this season, with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud leading Houston to the AFC South title and a playoff berth.

They lost to the Ravens 34-10 in the divisional round in January.

NFL franchise tag window closes March 5th at 4 p.m.
