California officials say there were 13 pit bulls. was euthanized after a dog breeder was reportedly bludgeoned to death in his Compton home.
News helicopter footage had to blur the horrific scene from the man’s backyard on Friday morning.
The breeder was later identified as 35-year-old Dominic Cooper. His body was discovered by his girlfriend, who immediately notified the police.
The Compton Fire Department and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department also responded, but news video showed the dog struggling to get into the backyard safely.
Police said Cooper was feeding his dogs, which were all housed in the same kennel, when the dogs started fighting and punched the man around 8 p.m. Thursday. The attack was captured on surveillance camera footage, said Michael Gomez of Los Angeles. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.
Helicopter footage showed the man’s girlfriend struggling to stay on top of a chain-link fence to keep away from the dog.
The breeder’s father cooperated with police and signed over the dogs (including eight puppies).
The county announced Tuesday that the dogs were euthanized after being examined by a veterinarian.
“All dogs were euthanized due to evidence related to the attack,” a county animal control spokesperson said. “Given the potential threat they pose to the community, this action was deemed necessary.”
Cooper’s friends said he was trying to raise money by breeding dogs.she also claimed Cooper said he wasn’t injured, but that the dog bit his artery, causing the man to bleed.
