The FBI is reportedly investigating allegations of fraud and corruption involving Democrat Tiffany Henyard, a small-town Illinois politician.
Henyard serves as mayor of Dalton, Illinois, a small village south of Chicago, and supervisor of Thornton Township. She made headlines earlier this month when she slammed Dalton trustees who questioned her own lavish spending habits. Mr Henyard argued that questioning her spending was akin to “attacking a black woman in power”.
Even though the village is millions of dollars in debt, Henyard relies on taxpayer funds for luxury travel, fine dining, first-class travel, self-promotion, personal philanthropy, and an expensive police presence. The FBI is currently investigating allegations of misconduct, including abuse of power and corruption.
Lawrence Gardner runs a U-Haul rental and trucking business in Dalton. told WFLD-TV. He met with the FBI after city officials allegedly harassed him and shut down his business in retaliation for not donating to Henyard-sponsored events.
“I spoke to some agents and explained what was going on,” he told the news outlet. “I gave them all the documents to show them what was going on in court, what was going on in Dalton, and they said they were investigating and would get back to me. Ta.”
Local restaurant owner Dwayne Wood had a similar story.
Wood has not yet spoken to FBI agents, but said Dalton city officials will not renew the restaurant’s license because it provides catering services to Dalton trustees who oppose Henyard.
“I’ve heard rumors that I’m on the wrong team,” Wood told WFLD. “I think I was targeted because of my connections, my affiliation with a particular group of people. … The trustees. I cooked for the trustees.”

Deputies are questioning Mr Henyard about his alleged use of taxpayers’ money and resources, including huge expenditures on out-of-town travel. They also accused Henyard of hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime paid to police to protect her, alleged use of government and taxpayer funds for personal gain, and withholding licenses from certain businesses. Ms Henyard denies the allegations of wrongdoing. In a statement, the public relations firm representing her denied any knowledge of the FBI investigation.
“Mayor Tiffany Henyard and the Village of Dalton have not received a subpoena nor have they been contacted by the FBI or any other law enforcement agency,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the FBI is not discussing the investigation, per agency policy.
Meanwhile, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office Ordered Haynard to do charity work. The Tiffany Henyard Cares Foundation, which is supposed to support cancer patients, will stop collecting donations. The foundation has been accused of failing to file financial disclosure forms.
