GOP North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer running for reelection

North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer is seeking re-election.

In a video released Thursday, the first-term Republican senator announced his plan. He was first elected in 2018 after a fierce battle with then-Sen. Heidi Heitkamp was the last Democrat to hold statewide office in North Dakota.

Cramer, a staunch ally of Donald Trump, held North Dakota’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019, served on the Utility Regulatory Authority from 2003 to 2012, and served as state Republican Party member. He also served as the chief.

Democrat Katrina Christiansen, an assistant professor of engineering at Jamestown University, is running against Mr. Kramer. She ran unsuccessfully in 2022 against Republican state Sen. John Hoeven and Republican former state Rep. Rick Becker, who campaigned for independence. Mr. Hoeven won his third term.

The North Dakota Democratic Party, NPL and Republican Party will hold a statewide and congressional candidate endorsement convention in Fargo in April.

Heitkamp’s victory in the Senate in 2012 was the last time a Democrat won a statewide election in North Dakota.
