MLB reporter Jorge Castillo joins ESPN to cover Yankees, Mets

ESPN is increasing its baseball coverage in New York.

Veteran MLB reporter Jorge Castillo will join the network to cover the Yankees and Mets, the Post reported.

He will also contribute to ESPN’s national MLB coverage.

Castillo has spent the past six years at the Los Angeles Times, first working on Dodgers wins and then as a corporate reporter.

Before that, he was on the Nationals beat at the Washington Post.

He previously covered baseball for the Newark Star-Ledger and the New York Times, so this ESPN job is like a full-circle moment for him.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jorge to ESPN’s baseball team,” ESPN.com deputy editor Rachel Ulrich said in a statement.

“He has covered some of baseball’s biggest franchises in some of the toughest markets, and we expect nothing less from him in New York. His excellent reporting, thoughtful analysis, and creativity. I can’t wait to add Brilliant Storytelling to our talented team.”

Over the past few years, ESPN has primarily used national reporters to cover the Yankees and Mets.

Corey Harvey previously served as ESPN’s Yankees reporter, but the Mothership hasn’t had a dedicated Mets reporter since Adam Rubin left in 2017.
