Donald Trump Appeals $355 Million Ruling in New York Civil Fraud Case

Former President Donald Trump on Monday filed a notice of appeal from a New York civil judgment that found him liable for fraudulently inflating his net worth in financial statements over the years.

The ruling limited his, and the Trump Organization’s, ability to do business in New York or apply for loans from financial institutions registered with the state.

President Trump asks an intermediate state appellate court to overturn Judge Arthur Engoron’s Feb. 16 ruling in a 2022 civil fraud lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, Reuters report.

Trump’s post-judgment interest will continue to accrue $111,984 every day until paid, according to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office, which filed the lawsuit against Trump and his company, CBS News reported. did. Note.

James sought to essentially bankrupt Trump by demanding a $370 million fine and permanent disbarment from the New York real estate industry.

As reported by Breitbart News, President Trump’s announcement comes after he declared in closing arguments at the trial, “This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed, and I think we’re entitled to damages.” This follows the comments.

Constitutional law scholar Jonathan Turley called the ruling “confiscating, extreme and abusive.”

The ruling is the second time this year that Trump has been found guilty and required to pay restitution to millions of people.
