Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in an interview Sunday that former President Trump doesn’t seem to understand that Russian President Vladimir Putin “will never stop.”
Zelensky: “I don’t think Donald Trump knows about President Putin.” said in an interview Sunday with CNN’s Caitlan Collins. “I know he met him…but he never fought with Putin. [The] The American military has never fought against the Russian military. Never…I understand better. ”
“I don’t think he understands that Putin will never stop,” Zelenskiy said.
This interview took place two years after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine has so far fended off Russian aggression, but Ukrainian leaders and U.S. allies have warned of the dangers of not providing more military aid to the war-torn democracy.
Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, has made comments that have raised concerns among U.S. allies and heightened skepticism among some U.S. voters about continued aid to Ukraine.
President Trump recently said he would encourage North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries that have not met their defense spending targets to do “whatever they want” to Russia. President Trump also declined to say whether he wants Russia or Ukraine to win the war in a recent interview with CNN.
Zelenskiy warned in an interview Sunday that such statements were “unbelievable.”
“If Donald Trump doesn’t know whether to support Ukraine or Russia, we’re going to have a difficult time in society,” Zelenskyy told Collins. This is because it means to be hostile to.”
Zelenskiy did not say whether he wanted Trump to be re-elected to the nation’s highest office, telling Collins: “It’s society’s decision who becomes president.”
