NBC News launches a full-throated defense of Hunter Biden, digging up old stories and claiming their followers were “right.”
After the New York Post dropped Hunter Biden’s laptop bombshell weeks before the 2020 presidential election, dozens of intelligence experts I tried to connect my laptop to the Russian disinformation campaign. For a while, this story proved useful, and Joe Biden even used it to silence Donald Trump during a debate.
However, that was not true, as the head of the US intelligence community admitted at the time.
More than three years later, NBC News Trying to prove Hunter Biden right. By suggesting that carrier intelligence officials weren’t wrong after all.
The newspaper published an article on Saturday titled, “Former U.S. spies warned in 2020 that the Hunter Biden scandal had Russian fingerprints. Now they feel vindicated.”
The article includes interviews with several intelligence officials who essentially claim victory.
“This confirms exactly what we were warning about,” said Mark Polymeropoulos, a CIA veteran who signed the letter. John Cipher, another CIA veteran and signatory of the letter, boasted that “recent revelations show we had foresight.”
The NBC News article is based on allegations made by Special Counsel David Weiss against former confidential FBI source Alexander Smirnov. Who is accused of lying? To the FBI. In court documents last week, Weiss said: Smirnov argued that “Extensive” contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials.
Despite Weiss only While making this claim without providing any hard evidence in court — which is unusual since information about Russian intelligence is usually highly classified — NBC said Smirnov had lied. It claims that the accusations have “vindicated” intelligence officials. He allegedly told the FBI that Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid $5 million each to then-Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden in 2015 or 2016.
Network framework aside, the report still finds no connection between the laptop and Russian disinformation.
NBC News reported, “There has been no public evidence of a role for the Russian government in how the laptop materials were released.”
More importantly, Weiss himself acknowledged that the laptop and its contents in court documents were valid evidence against Hunter Biden.
Weiss said in a court filing last month. explained:
In August 2019, IRS and FBI agents obtained a search warrant for the defendant’s Apple iCloud account for tax violations. In response to the warrant, in September 2019, Apple created backups of data on various electronic devices that the defendants had backed up to their iCloud accounts. Investigators later obtained an Apple MacBook Pro that the defendant had left behind at a computer store. A search warrant was also obtained for his laptop, and the search results largely overlapped with information investigators had already obtained from Apple.
A spokesperson for the House Judiciary Committee said these facts, the lack of evidence linking the laptop to Russian intelligence and Weiss’s own admission of the laptop, meant that intelligence officials had “no sense of legitimacy.” I’m sure it hasn’t.”
“Hunter Biden’s laptop was always real, always authenticated. They knew, or should have known, that and still carried around a verifiable fake letter. .The people who signed the letter should have felt no vindication,” spokesperson Russell Dye told NBC News.
