An argument between lovers allegedly turned into a “premeditated” bloodbath in front of their children at a gymnastics meet in Connecticut on Sunday.
Marcus McDaniel, 52, allegedly stabbed the man in the heart and slashed the right side of his head, leaving a six-inch gash in the victim’s skull, CT Insider reported.
McDaniel’s lawyer, Ronald Johnson, said in court that the victim had been blackmailing his client for “a significant period of time” over relationship issues and read out messages allegedly sent by the victim. ” According to local media.

According to CT Insider, the victim underwent five hours of emergency surgery and was in critical condition.
CT Insider claims, based on a probable cause affidavit, that McDaniel chased the victim around the corner of the Academy Building near City Hall and “fidgeted in his sweatshirt pocket” before firing a 3- to 4-inch blade. ” was allegedly seen on surveillance footage.

McDaniel’s attorney said the victim may have been under the influence of extreme mental turmoil due to texts he allegedly sent to McDaniel before the alleged stabbing, and that under Connecticut law he could not be charged with murder. CT Insider reported that the charges could be reduced to first-degree manslaughter.
The judge disagreed, saying the state’s self-defense law requires people to retreat when it’s safe to do so, rather than use force.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys fought over bail. Defense attorneys asked the court to reduce bail to $300,000 for McDaniel, who turned himself in after the stabbing.
The judge denied the motion and set bail at $1 million.
McDaniel is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and second-degree breach of peace.
