Boy, 11, makes portrait of world leader from 1,764 Rubik’s Cubes, sets sights on breaking world record

A schoolboy has created one of the largest portraits ever made of the British Prime Minister using more than 1,500 Rubik’s cubes.

Henil Soni, an 11-year-old from Harwich, Essex, England, started becoming obsessed with hand-held puzzles when he was just five years old, according to British news agency SWNS.

Soni, who can solve famous puzzles in a matter of seconds, takes his talent to an even bigger scale by creating portraits from cubes of color.

He created a portrait of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak from 1,764 Rubik’s cubes in just five days.

The child’s mother, Priyanka Soni, said her son worked on the project for two hours every day after school.

“He’s very proud of his portrait and shows it to everyone.” [of] “We’re friends from school,” she said.

Priyanka Soni said her son chose Sunak as prime minister because he is a well-known face and pays homage to his family’s homeland.

The 35-year-old mother-of-two said the portrait was 42 by 42 inches, but her son has even greater hopes for the future.

She said she hopes to one day break the Guinness World Record by creating a mosaic puzzle using 2,500 Rubik’s cubes. Most of them are already at home.

“I already have 2,000 Rubik’s cubes in my house, and no one can enter the front room while Henil is there.” [is] I’m creating it,” she told SWNS.

She added: “We had to move all the couches because the portraits were too big and there wasn’t enough space.”

Henil Soni also expressed interest in creating 50-by-50-inch portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the future.

The current Guinness World Record for most contributions to a rotating puzzle cube mosaic was achieved in December 2023 with 1,228 pieces.

In order for Soni to officially take over the Guinness World Records title in the future, a Guinness World Records Conference will need to be arranged.
