On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “America Report,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) called Laken Riley’s death “a failure of sanctuary city policy,” calling it a “failed sanctuary city policy.” “This is one of the consequences of policy failure.” It’s a border. Moskowitz also said, “Republicans have been talking about this issue for several years now, but Democrats have been a little bit behind.” But there was an amendment: “And because Donald Trump wants this issue for his campaign, he killed it.”
Mr. Moskowitz said: [relevant remarks begin around 2:05] “What happened in the Laken Riley case is unacceptable in this country. That gentleman should have been deported as soon as he was arrested on child endangerment charges. The idea that he has been released is ridiculous. This is a failure of sanctuary city policy and not something I can support, but that’s why I support Mayor Adams (D), who insists that these changes need to be made immediately. I support it.”
He added, “We have to solve the border issue. There was a bipartisan agreement to make that happen, and we were going to do some of those things, but that disappeared. And, yeah, These are the results of failures that are happening at the border. But we’re not going to solve them unless there’s a bipartisan solution to what’s going on. But certainly, if someone is arrested The problem with immigration crimes where people are released after being released and then commit a second crime requires that they be deported as soon as they are arrested.
Co-host Sandra Smith said, “Congressman, part of the problem is that this was happening. This man was roaming free and went to kill this 22-year-old girl. He crossed the border at that time. That’s what I was trying to do.” Your party says our borders are closed, our borders are secure, this administration is better off than the previous administration, and all is well. had. So now your party is crying out for crisis, and it’s the Republicans’ fault. So where were the Democrats? ”
Mr. Moskowitz replied: “Well, both may be true. One thing I would say is, first of all, illegal immigration is happening in all kinds of regimes, it’s been going on for decades, and it’s not just starting now. No. Another thing that may be true is that while Republicans have been talking about this issue for several years now, Democrats got on board a little later. may be, [which] There was a bipartisan bill to fix it, but Donald Trump killed it because he wanted to make this issue his campaign. All of these can be true at the same time. It doesn’t have to be and/or. Having said that, I am in favor of doing more at the border. I’m all for having a secure border, but if that means closing the border, so be it. What I’m against is that my grandparents came here fleeing the Holocaust. People fleeing persecution need to be able to come to America. But let’s be clear: What’s happening to people who come here illegally and are caught by law enforcement and released, they absolutely must be immediately deported. Thing. ”
