Indiana Fever point guard Erica Wheeler isn’t worried about her job security after Iowa All-American Caitlin Clark declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft on Thursday.
Clark, who will forgo his senior year at the University of Iowa, is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the WNBA by the Fever in the April 15 draft at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City.
After Clark announced her future plans, one X user posted: “Someone please tell Erica Wheeler to pack her bags now!” — Wheeler found that funny.
“Hahaha, unfortunately I have to go to Indy.” the 32-year-old All-Star guard wrote in a reply post.. “I promise I won’t go anywhere! Why don’t you pack your bags and come watch our game!”
Wheeler, who entered the league in 2015 after being undrafted out of Rutgers, responded to a number of troll comments while touting the “Clarke effect” he will bring to Indy.

Clark, 22, declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft a day after breaking the women’s major college scoring record with a 33-point performance at the University of Minnesota on Wednesday.
She has 3,650 points and 18 more to pass LSU’s Pete MaravichHe holds the Division I overall record for men’s and women’s basketball with 3,667 points.
The 6-foot guard currently leads the nation in scoring (32.2 PPG) and assists (8.7 APG) and has been compared to future Hall of Famer Diana Taurasi from UConn.
Clark is scheduled to play in the final home game of the regular season on Sunday against Big Ten regular season champion Ohio State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Clark is expected to team up with Indy’s No. 1 pick out of South Carolina in the 2023 draft, Aliyah Boston, as the Fever looks to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Wheeler signed a multi-year contract with the Fever last February to return to the team.
She originally played for the Fever from 2016 to 2019 and was named MVP of the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game, her first and only All-Star appearance.
Indiana University opens its season on May 14 against the Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
