Trump Immigration Language ‘Disgusting,’ ‘Racist and Xenophobic’

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Friday on “CNN This Morning” that former President Donald Trump’s speech at the U.S.-Mexico border was “disgusting” and “racist.” .

Anchor John Berman said, “Senator, you’ve led bipartisan negotiations to come to some kind of agreement on strengthening border security and addressing some of the issues around illegal immigration, especially on the southern border.” Yesterday, President Biden and President Donald Trump went to the border on the same day, and President Donald Trump used the word invasion in his speech and said that the United States is being invaded. What do you think about that language? Do you have it?”

Murphy said: I think it’s racist and xenophobic. Donald Trump doesn’t know what an invasion looks like. He goes to Ukraine and sees what happens when a neighboring country actually invades and kills hundreds of thousands and tens of thousands of its citizens. In fact, Donald Trump wants the southern border to remain in chaos. We had a chance to pass tough, bipartisan border security legislation. The bill would have allowed the president to close portions of the border if border crossings became too crowded. ”

He continued, “Do you know who stopped that bill from passing? Because Donald Trump doesn’t want border control. He wants chaos because he thinks it’s politically useful. And it was in stark contrast yesterday that Joe Biden stood at the border and asked Congress to give him extraordinary new powers and resources to manage the border. I don’t see it as a problem that should be solved, but as a problem that can be exploited.”

Murphy added, “I think the American people understand this. Republicans say they care about the border, but they actually have no intention of doing anything about the border.”
