The famous booth that appeared in the final moments of the final episode of “The Sopranos” sold for a whopping $82,600 at auction Monday.
The original booth was not part of a set, but was an actual customer seat inside Holsten’s, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
The 60-year-old store has decided to sell the iconic furniture that has drawn hundreds of fans of the show to the store since its final episode in 2007 as part of a much-needed makeover. , owner Chris Curley told the Post last week.
He expected the Mafia show memorabilia to do well at auction, given that public interest only visits the bench.
“We still have people coming who want to sit in the Soprano booth. We’re still accepting Saturday bus tours and on-site tours. During the summer, you’ll see people taking pictures outside and people taking pictures of the booth. ” Curley said. “It’s not quite the frenzy it was 17 years ago, but it’s still a very popular attraction.”
He put two red leather booth benches, a table, a partition wall and a plaque that says “Reserved for the Sopranos Family” up for auction on eBay Wednesday night.
“A once-in-a-lifetime chance to own the original booth where the Soprano family sat during the final scene of the famous show!” he wrote in the listing description.
Even though the booth has been attracting attention for years, Curley was surprised that it attracted bids of up to $32,000 in less than a day.
By Monday, nearly 240 bids had been received before the bid was awarded. The piece in television history was sold for $82,600 just after 7 p.m. The identity of the purchaser has not been disclosed.
And fans of Holsten’s, a Jersey staple since 1939, and “The Sopranos” will be happy to know that the renovations Parlor is currently undergoing are simply practical. There are no aesthetic changes to the classic soda shop.
“Everything is going to be the same,” Curley said. “The truth is, if we just did it without saying a word, most people wouldn’t even notice we made the switch. It would be exactly the same thing.”
