Donald Trump has been ordered to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in a defamation lawsuit filed by her.

Donald Trump is now seeking a new trial.

He cited restrictions on what judges could say to jurors while on the witness stand.

The Hill reported:

Former President Trump has requested a new trial after a jury awarded advice columnist E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in a defamation lawsuit.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan had previously rejected many of the arguments contained in two post-trial motions filed by Trump on Tuesday.

In particular, the former president took aim at the fact that Kaplan, a Clinton appointee, had severely limited what Trump could say to jurors on the witness stand.

Mr. Kaplan imposed the restriction after finding Mr. Trump liable for defamation before trial after Mr. Carroll won a separate case last year. The January trial was limited to the issue of damages.

Trump’s lawyers pointed to an exchange in which the judge claimed to want to know “everything[Trump]is going to say” ahead of Trump’s scheduled testimony. Kaplan meticulously considered each question and Trump’s intended answer before jurors heard from him, and at times interrupted the former president during his testimony. President Trump was on stage for less than five minutes.
