A new “Star Wars” movie called “The Acolyte” is coming to Disney+ this summer, but like many other Disney titles, the series promotes political propaganda and alienates the original’s fan base. Probability is high.
“This series is shaping up to be the worst Disney Star Wars series ever,” Lauren Chen said with a sigh.
Unfortunately, the premise of this series seems so strong that it was a missed opportunity to connect with longtime Star Wars fans.
According to Comic Book Resources, “The Acolyte is set approximately 100 years before the first film in the prequel trilogy, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.” The story follows a former Padawan who reunites with his Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes. ”
“Maybe it’s just me and my love for mystery thrillers, but as a premise it seems kind of interesting,” Lauren says.
But where the good news ends, unfortunately, is a compelling premise.
The series is likely to take a nosedive because of “people involved in the project.” First of all, the creator of the series is Lesley Headland, and Lauren said that the previous work had revolved almost exclusively around “a show about female orgies,” so Lauren said, “I didn’t want to do a Star Wars project.” He is completely unprepared and unqualified to lead.”
“[Disney] “Disney has executives who are obsessed with DEI and don’t know anything about DEI. “I keep doing it,” she lamented. They actually make movies and TV shows. ”
Additionally, Comic Book Resources reported that Headland revealed that “The Acolyte will approach the Jedi from a different perspective and prove them wrong in The Phantom Menace.” .
“When you’re doing something completely original like we are, you want to question the status quo of the times we live in,” Headland said.
“Why does everything have to be destructive now? Why does everything new have to ruin everything that came before?” Lauren asks.
To make matters worse, the series’ star Amandla Stenberg, who played Rue in The Hunger Games, is well known for her “LGBTQ+, BLM activism on social media.”
“She’s definitely one of those celebrities who makes headlines for her political and social stances no matter what she does, so her involvement in this series is alarming in and of itself. “I think so,” Lauren says.
But it seems that’s exactly what Headland was looking for, as he has revealed that he made The Acolyte with Stenberg in the lead role.
In an interview with C Magazine, Stenberg said: It was also an age of institutions, and a time of very rigid notions of the Force. And I think what we try to explore in the show is when organizations have a singular concept of how they can use power…We answer that question in a variety of ways. I’m trying to provide perspective and answers. The idea is to honor the spirit of Star Wars and its ideas about the Force, and to challenge them, hopefully harmoniously. ”
“Why can’t these shows be character- and lore-driven instead of theme-driven?” Lauren asks, and the answer is “because everyone, including these DEI employers, can’t use the Star Wars theme. “Because it’s understandable, but it takes Star Wars fans to actually engage with the characters and lore as they’re written.” As presented. ”
Stenberg also took time on a recent podcast to slam Hollywood as a “white institution.”
“I didn’t fully realize that Hollywood was a white institution…In terms of the first-hand experience that I had, you know, being a brown little girl and not being a certain “I was aware that I was only receiving applications for these types of roles…The representation within Hollywood would be an extension of white supremacy,” she said.
Lauren said, “At a time when most institutions in Hollywood are actively promoting DEI and saying, “We need to be more queer, we need to be more Black, we need to be more feminine,” this woman is pushing Hollywood toward white supremacy. Can I call you an advocate?” I was shocked.
“Apparently [Stenberg] and [Headland] We agree that Star Wars needs to convey a message, but that message isn’t really Star Wars. That’s social justice. ”
